Consistency IS The Reward

Marketing is a personal industry.

If you want to be the best, you have to look internally.

What beliefs do you have that need to be challenged?

What gaps do you have internally that others do not?

If you truly want to be a better marketer you have to rig your internal beliefs to enable it.

Today I'm going to talk specifically about how to rig your beliefs around consistency.

The Norm

Most marketers (and people in general) associate winning with the final results.

Post on social? (likes, comments, clicks, etc.)

Email? (open rates, replies, clicks, etc.)

Web page? (impressions, page time, conversions, etc.)

While measuring results in this way is a necessary part of marketing, it can be toxic to view these as "winning".

This association between final-result = win holds you back.

When you associate REWARD with the END you naturally hate the IN-BETWEEN

When you associate REWARD with the WORK you naturally relish the IN-BETWEEN

The Change

If you want to be consistent & you want to market successfully, you need to enjoy the work.

  • Writing the email
  • Writing the social post
  • Recording the video
  • Creating a new landing page

These actions are the reward.

Why?

Because you're refining your skills.

You get better & better at doing what you do every time you do it.

The reward is not the followers, likes, comments it's the improvement.

If you get better at what you do every single day, it's inevitable that all the other wins will happen.

The Result

Being consistent is required for success. (most of us know this)

The problem is, most people view consistency as the work, work is hard.

When you view consistency as the reward, it becomes easy.

Consistency is the vehicle that all other wins flow through.

If you make this belief shift, you will be a wildly successful marketer.

Read Time: 3 Minutes A life lesson from my Dad When I was 9 my Dad and I stopped at a Chick-fil-A in my hometown for lunch. He's a land surveyor, and there was a big project with a tight deadline coming up. So we'd spent all Saturday morning at the office as he chaotically tried to wrap this project up. I (not paying much attention) had a great morning playing on my Gameboy in the corner. While we weren't a poor family, we were not rolling in cash either. We counted money carefully. Going out...

Read Time: 2.5 Minutes New Year, Old Me? Marketing is one of the most distracting professions. There are always new platforms, new strategies, new opportunities, etc. It's so easy to get caught up chasing trends and whatever the "new thing" is. The problem is this causes marketing teams to make the wrong decisions while chasing shiny objects. The grass isn't greener. So as we go into 2024, this is your reminder that most businesses don't need to reinvent the wheel this year. Often if you have...

Read Time: 4 Minutes Storytelling ... it's a forgotten art. Almost everyone knows what storytelling is. They even say they believe in it. "Storytelling is the most effective way to market a company" "Marketers are storytellers" "Storytelling is the most authentic form of content" You've probably heard statements like this 1000x times, just like I have. The problem is most people don't know how to tell stories. Just like me. But, with thousands of hours in reading, podcasting, leading...
