Read Time: 2.5 Minutes A Lesson In StorytellingHumans love stories. We're absorbed by them. Movies, TV shows, Books, Social Media Content, etc. It's all just storytelling. So when you say that you want to create content and build a following, what you're really saying is that you want to start telling a story. So how do you tell a story worth following? The Difference Between Heroes & VillainsHeroes and Villains have the same backstory. Pain. Somewhere along the way, they met opposition. Fell flat in the face of a challenge. Their life was damaged because of it. The difference is how they reacted. Villains experience this damage, then seek to get even. Heroes experience this damage, then seek to protect others from it. Every good story has a Hero and a Villain. So set them up appropriately and make it obvious. Villain: "Owners fail to get leads for their business from content." Hero: "I'm on a mission to help more owners get leads on autopilot with done-for-you content." The StruggleNo story is interesting without a struggle. But sometimes, this can be hard to articulate. Here's an easy framework to build your narrative around. Past. Present. Future. Past = The existence that shaped the hero Present = The current state of the hero and the villain they face Future = The future state of the hero and the defeat of the villain My StoryI always knew I wanted to be a programmer. I love tech, taught myself to code at a young age. You could almost say I was addicted to it. In college, I quickly realized it wasn't how I wanted to spend my life. ...crap What now? I spent a few years focusing on my career, trying new things. Operations? Felt like a cog in the machine. Sales? I was good at it but was prone to burnout. I was stuck in the sales world for a long time, unhappy with my life & the direction my career was going... Then... the pivot that changed my life. Marketing? Wait a second; this is IT! I went headlong into the world of marketing. I studied every book, course, online video, blog, guide, etc. that I could get my hands on. All this education & time in the field paid off. I built a rare skillset and was able to help the companies I worked with grow. Now we're here... Skillset? Check. Experience? Check. Having Fun? Check. Now it's time to help those one step behind me. I'm on a mission to help marketers & business owners build a better life for themselves through their businesses. Marketing programs that actually work. Strategies that actually work. No fluff; none of the BS I had to find out only worked on paper. Real marketing for real people in the real world. What's Your Story? Read Time: 3 Minutes A life lesson from my Dad When I was 9 my Dad and I stopped at a Chick-fil-A in my hometown for lunch. He's a land surveyor, and there was a big project with a tight deadline coming up. So we'd spent all Saturday morning at the office as he chaotically tried to wrap this project up. I (not paying much attention) had a great morning playing on my Gameboy in the corner. While we weren't a poor family, we were not rolling in cash either. We counted money carefully. Going out...
Read Time: 2.5 Minutes New Year, Old Me? Marketing is one of the most distracting professions. There are always new platforms, new strategies, new opportunities, etc. It's so easy to get caught up chasing trends and whatever the "new thing" is. The problem is this causes marketing teams to make the wrong decisions while chasing shiny objects. The grass isn't greener. So as we go into 2024, this is your reminder that most businesses don't need to reinvent the wheel this year. Often if you have...
Read Time: 4 Minutes Storytelling ... it's a forgotten art. Almost everyone knows what storytelling is. They even say they believe in it. "Storytelling is the most effective way to market a company" "Marketers are storytellers" "Storytelling is the most authentic form of content" You've probably heard statements like this 1000x times, just like I have. The problem is most people don't know how to tell stories. Just like me. But, with thousands of hours in reading, podcasting, leading...
